Four Maoists, including three women, were killed in an encounter with a special police party in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday night.
The police had been conducting combing operations for the last few days in the area on information that Maoists were moving in Amidala village in Geedi Madugula area of the city.
"Some Naxalites (Maoists) are taking away tribals, misguiding them and trying to involve them in offence," said Jeetendra, Deputy Inspector General, Visakhapatnam.
Amidala is 15 kilometers from Vakapalli, a Maoist stronghold, where policemen allegedly gang-raped 11 women last month triggering an agitation demanding their arrest.
Andhra Pradesh is one of the worst affected of the 13 states where the rebels are active, and have killed thousands of people over the past three decades. (ANI)
