A consignment of CDs meant to provide craft training for girl students in high schools and higher secondary schools under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme in Nilgiris district, was allegedly found to be containing pornographic material, official sources said today. The District Chief Education Officer (CEO) has recalled the CDs and an inquiry has been ordered, they said. Police authorities, when contacted, said in the absence of any complaint, no action was being contemplated at present. A few high school teachers and head masters of the schools, on condition of anonymity, told UNI that they had received the CDs along with colour paper, plastic dolls, thermocol and other materials from the Education Officer three months ago. The students were to be trained in creating show piece articles with the material. When the CDs were found to be pornographic, the CEO was informed and the schools were directed to return the CDs, they said. Education department officials said the material was being supplied by a contractor and the mistake could have occured during the shipment. UNI KS NK1842
