Sri Lanka's defunct Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) has continued to feature in the European Union's (EU) renewed list of terrorist groups, which sets out persons, groups and entities subject to restrictive measures, it was reported on Tuesday.

It a statement on Monday, the European Council said it renewed the EU terrorist list, which also freezes funds and financial assets of individuals, persons, groups and entities subject in the EU, reports the Daily Mirror newspaper.

The Tamil separatist group is among 21 terrorist groups and 15 individuals featured on the list.

Although, the LTTE was eliminated in Sri Lanka in May 2009 following a three-decade long civil conflict, the terrorist organization is active in European countries as well as in Malaysia and India, the Colombo Gazette said in a report.

Efforts to revive the organization had been reported in some of these countries and in Sri Lanka, it added.

The Council first set up the list as implementation of UNSC Resolution 1373/2001 that followed the 9/11 terror attacks in the US.

It reviews the list at regular intervals, and at least every six months, on the basis of a regular exchange of information between member states on any new facts and developments relating to the listings.
