An Indian soldier was injured on Monday after Pakistan Army targeted Indian army positions with mortars and automatic weapons on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri sector, a defence official said.

Indian positions have retaliated "strongly and effectively", a defence spokesperson said.

The injured soldier belongs to 21 Sikh Regiment, said sources.

A soldier and a girl were killed in Pakistan shelling in Poonch and Rajouri districts earlier on Monday.
