Afghan forces on Monday recaptured Helmand province's Nawa district from the Taliban after three days of military operations, a Defence Ministry statement said.

"Afghan security forces regained the control of Nawa district and Taliban rebels after suffering huge casualties have fled," said the statement.

More than 50 militants were killed, six injured and one arrested during the operations, Xinhua news agency quoted the statement as saying..

The move ended the Taliban's nearly one year occupation of the district, according to the ministry.
