National Instruments to Host the 8th Edition of Educators Day for the First Time in Chennai

National Instruments, the technology pioneer and leader in graphical system design for test, control and embedded design, today announced the 8th edition of Educator’s Day, the largest platform for industry-academia collaboration to be held for the first time ever in Chennai. The annual Educators Day which is eagerly looked forward by the science and engineering academia will be held on 6th November 2009 at the Chennai Trade Center from 9 AM onwards. With the objective of improving the quality of education and promoting experiential learning in India, the day long conference will focus on Entrepreneurship, a phenomenon India is increasingly being witness to since the last decade.

Mr. Jayaram Pillai, Managing Director for IndRA (India, Russia & Arabia), National Instruments, said, ”With the increasing science and engineering graduates emerging in India, it has become imperative for the young minds to tune themselves to the industry expectations for higher employment opportunities and lead the way forward by exhibiting their powerful entrepreneurial skills.”

“To build an entrepreneurial culture, there need to exist an encouraging eco-system which can motivate the engineers of tomorrow to become the leaders of innovative thought. The industry is of the view that students should be provided access to technology, sufficient opportunities to develop self confidence and an entrepreneurial experience while they are on campus. During this one day workshop thought leaders from academia and industry will share their insights on experiential education which would enable students to pursue their dreams to create start-up companies and evolve as job creators”, Mr. Pillai added.

The conference will highlight the following:

-- Inaugural session by the NICE (Nurturing Innovation and creativity in Engineering) Committee comprising young academicians from leading institutes

-- Launch of Planet NI Foundation by Jayaram Pillai, Managing Director for IndRA, National Instruments - The role of Planet NI Foundation is to enable engineers and scientists achieve economic prosperity through access to technology

-- Announcement of the VI Mantra results – A National level Technical Contest that receives over 200 papers from students and researchers all over India.

-- NI Yantra – An Autonomous system embedded event to foster the spirit of innovation in engineering students and expose them to the essence of experiential education

-- Panel discussion by eminent academicians & entrepreneurs on Entrepreneurship – An inconvenient truth. Session moderated by Dr M.P Ravindra - Head of Education & Research- Infosys

-- Technical presentation on graphical system design & Algorithm engineering

-- Parallel tracks on research & academia

Educator’s Day 2009 is an interactive platform for Engineering faculty members (Undergraduate and Post Graduate), Science faculty members (Post Graduate – Electronics and Physics), Academicians and Research Scholars. Close to 1000 faculty members from science and engineering streams across India are expected to participate in the event.

In its seven years of staging, the Educators Day has seen an overwhelming response from the academic fraternity and in 2008 alone, witnessed participation of more than 700 professors from different parts of India. National Instruments has always supported the cause of Experiential Education, which is the key element in bridging the gap between industry requirements and university learning.
