Major Indian IT companies partaking in Gitex

With an aim to facilitate business opportunities in West Asia, nearly 36 leading Indian IT companies are participating in the Gitex, the region's premier IT expo.

The participation of the Indian companies, including hardware, software services and IT industry infrastructure sectors, is coordianted by the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC). More than 25,000 products, including laptops, PCs, mobile phones, cameras, gaming and entertainment, consumer electronics, home entertainment, office automation and a host of latest technology such as notebooks and Blue-Ray-based electronics are being showcased at the event, which began here yesterday.

''ESC has been encouraging Indian IT companies, particularly small and medium enterprises, to participate in Gitex by offering special packages to them since West Asia markets offer tremendous potential.

Indias exports of electronics and software has reached 980 million dollars to West Asia in 2007-08 and the region continues to maintain its fifth position for Indias exports of electronics and computer software/services,'' said Kamal Vachani, Regional Director of ESC for the West Asia.

D K Sareen, Executive Director, ESC, said the expo offers a useful platform for the Indian companies to expand into the region.

Indian IT majors like Wipro, Infosys and Satyam already have offices in the UAE.

GITEX runs 19-23 October 2008 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC) with thousands of companies looking to generate new business opportunities in one of the fastest growing IT industries in the world.

Organiser Dubai World Trade Centre says that the event is set for another sold out presentation with more than 3,300 companies from 83 countries welcoming 130,000 trade visitors.

With the global economic meltdown affecting many regions, international companies are looking to invest in financially stable regions like the West Asia.
