End of road if US attacks Quetta as Pak not a banana republic: Official
new York | December 15, 2009 11:48:00 AM IST

A senior Pakistani official has said that the US should stop dictating terms to the country, as Pakistan is not a 'banana republic', and warned that if the Obama administration move ahead with its plans of launching drone attacks in Quetta then it would be the 'end of the road' for the ties between both the countries.

"We are not a banana republic," The Los Angeles Times quoted the official, who is involved in discussions on security issues with the White House.

The official rebuffed Washington's claims regarding Islamabad being reluctant to take on the extremists hiding in Quetta saying the US assertions about the city's role as a sanctuary had been exaggerated.

"We keep hearing that there is a shadow government in Quetta, but we have never been given actionable intelligence," the official, added.

He blamed the US intelligence of not providing credible and actionable inputs against any of the top Taliban or Al-Qaeda commander.

"Pakistan is prepared to pursue Taliban leaders, including Omar, even when the intelligence is imprecise," he said, adding, "For the past two years we haven't heard anything more." (ANI)
