After NRO beneficiaries, Sharif now wants "big criminals" who had loans waived nailed
Lahore | November 30, 2009 10:25:49 AM IST

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has called for an investigation against all the beneficiaries of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) and also against those who had misappropriated public funds.

Interacting with media persons on the sidelines of function here, Sharif urged the investigating agencies to probe the role of those persons who have made huge money by siphoning off public assets.

"Those who have got their loans written off are big criminals too. The investigations must not remain limited to NRO beneficiaries," The Dawn quoted Sharif said.

Sharif said all those whose names were in the NRO beneficiaries list should resign from office immediately like former bureaucrat Saeed Mahdi.

Mahdi had resigned as a special adviser to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif after his name appeared in the list of NRO beneficiaries.

Commenting on the recently announced special Balochistan package, the Pakistan Muslaim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief said the government should take more measures to pacify the Baloch people and create a consensus on their suggestions.

"The government should step forward to take them (Baloch people) into confidence and incorporate their concerns and demands in the document for creating a consensus," Sharif said.

Responding a question, he said there was not much difference in the present government and former President General Pervez Musharraf's autocratic regime.

"When I see any change in the situation, I will myself let the people know of it," Sharif said. (ANI)
