World Pak not done enough to against 26/11 perpetrators: PM
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said Pakistan had not done enough to bring the perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack to justice and a determined effort by Islamabad to curb terror was not happening. ''They (Pakistan) are not doing enough'' to bring the perpetrators of the 26/11 to book and those responsible including Hafiz Syeed were roaming free,'' he said in a wide-ranging interview with the CNN. The statement comes a day before Dr Singh is to hold talks with US President Barack Obama tomorrow at the White House on several issues - mainly counter- terrorism, climate change and economy. The two countries are also like to sign a Counter-terrorism Initiative for strengthening cooperation against global terror. Dr Singh said he had been assured by Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani at Shar-el-Sheikh that Islamabad would do all but they had not done enough. He said Masood Azhar and the Lashkar-e-Toiba who were actively involved in the 26/11, were moving around freely. Asked whether he found a ''partner'' in Pakistan in the fight against terrorism, Dr Singh said he did not know whether he had found a partner because he did not know whom to deal with in that country. He said the Army was an important force in Pakistan and they would like democracy to succeed in that country. But the power lay with the Army. Dr singh said he had stated often that borders could not be redrawn but both countries could work together to ensure that the border between them was a ''border of peace,'' He said he favoured increase of cross-border trade, people-to-people contact which would enable people on both sides to live with dignity. ''Those are the issues we could discuss,'' he said when asked about any possibility of the resumption of the Composite Dialogue Process. -- (UNI) -- 23DF1.xml
