PM greeted in Washington by cheering crowd of Indians

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was greeted by a cheering crowd of enthusiastic Indians settled in US as Air India One touched ground at the Andrews Air Force Base. The PM jumped protocol and went to meet the Indians including women and children some of them dressed in Indian national attire were shouting slogans "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and waving tricolour. The Prime Minister had brief interaction with Indians at the Air Force Base and shook hands with them.

Cheering crowd of Indians settled in the US carrying tricolour in hands, greeted the Prime Minister as his Air India One touched down at the Andrews Air Force Base. A guard of honour was presented as Dr Singh came down from the aircraft. National anthems of both the countries were played and the Indian flag fluttered as the Prime Minister walked down the red carpet.

This is the first state visit under the Obama Administration.

Dr Singh was received at the Andrews Air Force Base by senior officials of the US administration and Indian Ambassador Meera Shankar, chief of protocol, US Assistant Secretary of State Robert Blake and US Ambassador to India Timothy Roemer.
