Jeev pulls out of Frys.com Open, to focus on season-ending events
New York | Wednesday, Oct 21 2009 IST

Ace Indian pro Jeev Milkha Singh has withdrawn from the Frys.com Open next week because of an injured right ankle.

''I was really looking forward to playing the Frys.com Open, but unfortunately, I had to pull out of the event with an injured right ankle,'' said Jeev. ''It is the same injury that bothered me last year around the PGA Championship. I thought I had gotten over it, but that's apparently not the case.'' ''The ankle started feeling funny during second round at the Justin Timberlake PGA Tour event last week, and by the time I started warming up for third round, I had intense pain. I somehow finished the final two rounds there with the help of painkillers, but after I arrived in Scottsdale for this week's Frys.com Open, I could barely walk,'' he added.

Jeev, a multiple winner on Asian, Japanese and European Tours, gets special shoes he gets from FootJoy, said he did not wear shoes of right specifications last week event and that could have led to the problem.

He has been advised complete rest and hopes to return a couple of weeks later.

''I have been advised complete rest and physio. The frustrating part is that I am playing really well at the moment and was looking forward to this stretch of tournaments. I am scheduled to play the Volvo World Matchplay in Spain, the HSBC Champions in Shanghai and the Dubai World Championship, which are all big events for me for various reasons,'' Jeev stated.

The Indian is currently ranked 52nd in the world and with his prize money earnings of over 800,000 dollars is hoping to play fulltime on the PGA Tour next year.

He is ranked 38th on European Tour rankings, is also scheduled to play the Race to Dubai World Championships to be held from November 19 to 22 in Dubai.
