Clinton, Michelle Obama appear together
Denver | August 27, 2008 12:01:13 AM IST

U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama made their first joint appearance Tuesday in Denver, commemorating the anniversary of women's suffrage.

Clinton, the former first lady who lost the Democratic presidential nomination to Obama's husband, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has helped women for generations to come, Michelle Obama said at the Emily's List Gala, The Denver Post reported.

She broke so many stereotypes, she broke the notion that women could not do this, the would-be next first lady said. Over her career she has offered me, my daughters, and all of our daughters a different vision for what they could become and for that we are forever grateful for her work.

Emily's List is a political network for pro-choice Democratic women candidates. U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., and Rep. Hilda Solis, D-Calif., also spoke at the event

For her part, Clinton praised Barack Obama and Joe Biden, Obama's vice presidential pick, and went on to compliment Michelle Obama.

I know a little bit about how the White House works and you know if the president is not exactly on our side, call the first lady and with Michelle Obama we are going to have somebody to answer that phone, Clinton said.
