Madhya Pradesh to run community radio centres for tribals
Bhopal | July 22, 2008 5:35:07 PM IST

The Madhya Pradesh government has decided to open community radio centres in tribal dominant areas, an official said Tuesday.

These community radio centres would be totally of the tribals, by the tribals and for the tribals," an official of the state's tribal welfare department told IANS.

He said this would not only preserve their culture but would also lead to their educational, social and economic progress.

According to the official, this would go a long way in keeping the tribals living in almost inaccessible areas informed about the schemes aimed at their welfare.

The radio programmes, he said, would be prepared in Gondi, Bhili, Korku and other tribal dialects.

The first of these centres are being set up in ten districts of the state for the first time in the country, said Sriram Tiwari, managing director of Vanya, an undertaking of the tribal welfare department. ss/rd/vt
