Six girls charged in doorstep mugging
London, Ontario | May 09, 2008 12:01:13 AM IST

A 12-year-old girl and five other female teenagers in the Canadian city of London face assault charges after a woman and her son were beaten at their doorstep.

The attack happened April 23 as the group knocked on the woman's door and assaulted her, Deputy Police Chief Ian Peer told the London (Ontario) Free Press.

The 12-year-old and several others in the group are already charged with what Canadian police call swarming -- a group attack on an individual -- that occurred in February.

It's beyond me where the parental control is and, if they're not there, then some agency needs to step in and take control, Peer said.

Police said the woman attacked last week had run-ins with the girls in recent weeks. During the attack, her 17-year-old son tried to intervene, and was knocked to the ground, where he was stomped on until he lost consciousness, police said.

Constable Amy Phillipo said the youngest alleged attacker apparently knows about the justice system.

The 12-year-old removed her shoe and began to strike the resident with the shoe 50-60 times in the head and shoulders, saying the resident couldn't do anything to her (because) she was only 12, she said.
