Nevada towns raise money for tot Minden, Nev. | May 09, 2008 12:01:13 AM IST
The child of two U.S. soldiers who were killed in March, allegedly by a fellow soldier, is the beneficiary of fundraising efforts far from her Washington home. Kassidy Miller, the 8-month-old daughter of the two slain Fort Lewis soldiers, will be taken care of if residents of two tiny Nevada towns have their way,The Seattle Times reported Wednesday. She really has become the community's child, said Jennifer Fredrickson, who with a girlfriend is planning a Saturday fundraiser at a bar in Minden, Nev. If one vicious person can do this to her, then an entire community can rally around her and make her realize there's good in the world. Separately, an Air Force unit from California recently sent a $2,000 check to the family. Kassidy's parents -- Staff Sgt. Timothy Miller, 27, and Sgt. Randi Miller, 25 -- were both Army medics who served in Iraq. Timothy planned to move back to the Silver State to join the Nevada Highway Patrol, the newspaper said. Spc. Ivette Gonzalez Davila, 22, is accused of fatally shooting the couple, dousing their bodies with acid and kidnapping Kassidy. Davila has been charged with two specifications of premeditated murder, burglary, kidnapping and obstruction of justice and is being held at the Trident Submarine Base at Bangor, Wash. (UPI)
