Fire destroys Philadelphia church Philadelphia | May 09, 2008 12:01:13 AM IST
A raging fire gutted Philadelphia's Prince of Peace Baptist Church and damaged or destroyed at least four nearby homes Wednesday, authorities said. Fire officials had not yet determined what caused the six-alarm blaze, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. One firefighter suffered minor burns. The church, which once housed a school, had been built in the early 20th century and was listed on the National Historic Registry. The conservative evangelical African-American church's pastor, Robert Shipman, said the congregation will rebuild with the help of God. (UPI)
