Emotional Terry thanks Chelsea fans for overwhelming support
London | February 09, 2010 1:14:19 PM IST

An emotional Chelsea captain John Terry thanked club fans for their overwhelming support in spite of revelations about his sexcapades off the field.

Stripped of the England captaincy by Fabio Capello on Friday, Terry admitted the backing he received from the crowd shocked him during Sunday's 2-0 victory over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.

"I would like to thank every single fan who was at the game. I didn't expect that. It was a really emotional day for me and the way the fans have been with me for the last two weeks has been honestly incredible," The Sun quoted him, as saying.

"I went away from the game full of delight and I would like to thank every single fan for the way they have treated me. I mean that from my heart," he added.

Chelsea skipper Terry, 29, has been under a cloud since news broke of his affair with Vanessa Perroncel, the mother of Wayne Bridge's son.

A sell-out crowd chanted 'There's only one England captain' before the Gunners clash.

And Terry told Chelsea TV: "Overall it was a great performance and, as I say, thank you to everyone for that."

Boss Carlo Ancelotti called Terry the 'perfect' skipper. And he pulled JT to one side to tell him: "From now on I will not call you John I will call you captain." (ANI)
