Sunderland striker Bent recalled to England squad
London |Monday, 2009 3:05:07 PM IST

Darren Bent was named Sunday in Fabio Capello's England squad for next week's friendly against Brazil in Doha.

The Sunderland striker has scored eight goals this season, though he missed a penalty Saturday against former club Tottenham Hotspur.

Bent comes into the squad with both Aston Villa's Emile Heskey and West Ham United's Carlton Cole out with injury.

Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Aaron Lennon and David James all miss out through injury, while Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone and Villa full-back Stephen Warnock have been given an opportunity to impress in the penultimate match before Capello names his provisional squad for next summer's World Cup finals.

Midfielder David Beckham is included but will stand down if the Los Angeles Galaxy maintain their interest in the MLS playoffs by beating Chivas USA.

Full squad: Foster (Manchester United), Green (West Ham), Hart (Manchester City); Bridge (Manchester City), Brown (Manchester United), Cahill (Bolton), Johnson (Liverpool), Lescott (Manchester City), Terry (Chelsea), Upson (West Ham), Warnock (Aston Villa); Barry (Manchester City), Beckham (Los Angeles Galaxy), Carrick (Manchester United), Huddlestone (Tottenham), Jenas (Tottenham), Lampard (Chelsea), Milner (Aston Villa), Wright-Phillips (Manchester City), Young (Aston Villa); Bent (Sunderland), Crouch (Tottenham), Defoe (Tottenham), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United).
