Next Tendulkar in making thankful to god for '439 runs' achievement

Sarfaraz Khan, a 12-year-old schoolboy who has broken master blaster Sachin Tendulkar's record by scoring 439 runs in the Harris Shield tournament conducted for schools in Mumbai, has said that he is thankful to god for the achievement.

Addressing the media on achieving the rare feat in Mumbai, Sarfaraz said: "I am very happy and my friends are also wishing me. I want to continue playing like this. Focusing more on the game, I want to score more such runs. I really want to thank God, who helped me to reach the landmark of scoring 439 runs."

The 12-year-old had started playing cricket at the age of 4 and is keen to continue playing and score such record making and breaking runs in the future too.

Sarfaraz's coach, who is incidentally his father, Naushad Khan, said that he was proud of his son's achievement and wants him to give consistent performance like the two stalwarts Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli who made their presence felt with the helo of the Harris Shield tourney.

"During the schooling period, the way Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli gave consistent performances. He (Sarfaraz) should also continue to play like this and I am sure he will do it and give a good performance in future as well," Naushad Khan said.

Sarfaraz, a resident of Kurla, one of the suburbs of Mumbai scored this marathon knock in a match for Rizvi Springfield School against Indian Education Society that was played on Tuesday (November 03).

In his 421-ball score of 439 runs, Sarfaraz smashed 56 boundaries and 12 sixes. (ANI)
