We can learn from disabled cricketers: Shoaib Akhtar
Karachi | October 28, 2008 6:35:11 PM IST

Shoaib Akhtar may have developed a bad boy image for his off-field antiques, but the Pakistan pacer also has a knack for lending a helping hand to a good cause.

The controversial pacer opted to visit a training camp of disabled cricketers and later said that he "learnt a lot from them".

"These guys are training here with the sort of commitment and dedication that I have never seen before," Shoaib told reporters after his visit to the National Stadium.

"People like me can really learn from them," he added.

When asked to give the players some tips, Shoaib told the camp organisers that he wants to learn from these cricketers who were playing the game in spite of severe physical handicaps.

"These cricketers can actually teach us a lot," said the maverick pacer, one of the biggest cricket celebrities in the world.

Shoaib, 33, said that he will certainly participate in a match to be organised by the Pakistan Disabled Cricket Association (PDCA) on Dec 3 to mark the International Disabled Day.

Saleem Karim, PDCA president, was pleased to see Shoaib pay a visit and mingle with the cricketers.

"Shoaib is a big cricket star and we are delighted to have him here," he said.kh/av/vt
