Ponting confident of ending his Indian curse: Chappell

Australian skipper Ricky Ponting is more determined than ever to improve his dismal record against India in the upcoming four-Test series, said batting great Greg Chappell.

Chappell says Ponting is ready to end his Indian curse and serve up a run scoring blitz in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

"I can see a steely glint in his eye and I always worry when I see that in good players. That means there are a few runs around the corner," Chappell was quoted as saying in Courier Mail.

"If I was the Indian team and I wanted to worry about something, I would worry about that."

The Australian captain is desperate to improve on an average of only 12.28 in eight Tests in India, and believes he now has the patience and technique to prosper on flat pitches expected to suit spinners Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh.

Chappell, who is helping out Australia as an assistant coach on tour, said Ponting is ready for the challenge.

"The only discussion we have had about it, in fact he was the one that initiated it and made the comment that basically what he has to do is trust his method. I think there have probably been a few occasions in India where he has got away from that method, and that has perhaps been part of the issue when it comes to performance in India."av/dg
