Nets forward charged with assault Minneapolis | May 09, 2008 12:01:13 AM IST
New Jersey Nets forward Richard Jefferson faces a fifth-degree misdemeanor assault charge after an alleged incident Jan. 27 at a Minneapolis hotel. A police complaint against the seven-year veteran alleged that he grabbed and choked Lyle Fox at a private birthday party, and that Jefferson broke through a roped-off area, the (Minneapolis) Star-Tribune reported Wednesday. Fox claimed that Jefferson became very angry when he was asked to leave, grabbed Fox by the throat with both hands, threw him onto a bench and began to choke him. The Tribune said the victim went unconscious for a short time. Police investigators said they found red marks on Fox's neck. Fox said he saw bruising around his neck and shoulder the day after the alleged attack. The 6-foot-7, 225-pound Jefferson is scheduled to make his first court appearance June 18. The Nets' leading scorer is about nine inches taller and weighs nearly 60 pounds more than Fox, the newspaper said. (UPI)
