ICL's Kiran More may visit Pak to scout for more players Lahore | December 31, 2007 3:25:58 PM IST
Pakistan cricket, which is already in turmoil due to the national team's below-par performance in 2007, may be further hit hard by an Indian Cricket League (ICL) representative's expected visit on January 12. Rumours are afloat that ICL chief selector Kiran More is arriving here to scout for more Pakistani cricketers for the league. More is likely to hire players in bulk as the ICL management is working on fielding one team each for Lahore and Karachi in its second edition, beginning from March. Reliable sources claimed that More's visit was planned after several Pakistani cricketers, especially those without confirmed positions in the national team, showed an interest in signing with the ICL, despite the PCB's ban on six players. A Lahore or a Karachi team in the ICL would increase spectator interest. Last week, the PCB banned six Test cricketers namely -- Inzamam-ul-Haq, Taufiq Umar, Shabbir Ahmed, Imran Farhat, Abdul Razzaq and Azhar Mahmood for joining the ICL and for participating in the first episode of matches. Several banned players are trying to get a stay order against the decision, the Dawn reported. Sources told the Dawn that even though some high-ups in the PCB were divided over the decision to ban the players, Chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf, opted for a zero tolerance policy. (ANI)
