He said the country had just 15 per cent courts, but there was a need to have 85 per cent more courts, commensurate to the population rate. '' In China there were 1,30,000 courts. But we had only 14,000 courts and close to 30 per cent of the cases were pending in various courts,'' he added. Last year, 1.5 crore cases were filed before courts and about 1.7 crore cases were disposed of, he noted.

The traditional party contestants are not fools to throw away precious money down the Musi merely to get elected as corporators. They are looking forward to making many times their investment in the business of politics through umpteen ways ranging from collecting commissions from contractors and land grabbers to facilitating land dispute settlements and postings and transfers of officials,'' he said. He added that the traditional parties believe in luring voters with money, liquor and biryani or by offering short-term inducements like television sets and cash transfers or make political mileage by dividing them on the basis of religion and caste, language and region. They do not believe in empowering people with provision of quality healthcare and education and opportunities for livelihood. ''In contrast, the Lok Satta believes if power is given to the voters, who are self-respecting and love their children and families, they will transform society...There is no magic wand which can transform society and improve peoples lives. Kerala Director General of Police (DGP) Jacob Punnoose today said terror suspect David Coleman Headley had not visited Kerala but his suspected accomplice Tahawwur Hussain Rana was on a visit to the city. Speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of a programme here, Mr Punnoose said ''there was no indication that Headley had visited Kerala but we have every reason to believe that the person, who stayed at a five-star hotel in the city was the same person, who is in the FBI custody.'' Headley and Rana were held by FBI a month back on charges of plotting attacks in India and Denmark. Mr Punnoose said the passport and immigration documents had showed that Rana had visited Kochi and the police were probing into the purpose of his visit to the city. The DGP also said the informations collected by the State Police and Intelligence-wing were being sent to the National Investigation Agency(NIA) and other central agencies, who were retracing the steps of the terror suspects in the country. Detailed investigations revealed that Headley had stayed at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai and Rana had also visited the metropolis before the 26/11 attacks. Mr Punnoose said the police had undertaken a massive search of the hotels to ascertain whether Headley had visited Kerala, but had found records pertaining to 'various Ranas'. An official of the NIA was in the city to probe into the alleged visit of Rana and a woman named Samraz Rana(supposedly his wife) to the city.
