SRK not happy with new IPL format
New Delhi | Tuesday, Sep 7 2010 IST

Expressing his dissent over the proposed structure for the fourth edition of the IPL, which has reportedly not gone down well with the franchise owners over the player-retention issue, Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) owner Shahrukh Khan today wrote on Twitter that the new rules of the cash-rich league is ''confusing''. The new IPL format, particularly the player-retention provision, has become the talking point among the franchisees.

The retention guidelines, which allows the existing eight teams to retain a maximum of four foreign players, means that the franchisees will have to shell out 1.8 million dollars to retain the first player, 1.3 million dollar for the second player and 0.9 million dollars and 0.5 million dollars for the third and fourth player, respectively. This will, point out franchisees, eat into their purchasing power.

Like for say, if a team decides to retain four players, then it would be left with only 4.5 million out of the nine million dollars spending cap to buy the remaining squad of 26.

''New IPL rules a bit confusing. Two new teams added (good). All players should go into pool to make it fair for everyone. Simple and straight,'' the Bollywood superstar tweeted.
