India Gehlot for permanent mechanism for hike in MPs/MLAs honorarium
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today stressed on the need for evolving a formula and mechanism for time to time revision of honorarium and allowances of members of Parliament and state legislatures. Responding to demand of hike in pension and honorarium of MLAs and former MLAs during his reply to general debate on Budget in the Assembly, Mr Gehlot said ''All of us, including Parliament and parties, could think over it and do the needful.'' He said like bureaucrats and others there should be permanent mechanism and procedure for revision of perks and honorarium of MPs, MLAs and pension of former MPs and former MLAs. The Centre and Parliament could work on it and formulate something, the Chief Minister, who also holds the Finance portfolio said. Earlier, Surendra Jadawat of the Congress Party, BJP Deputy Leader Ghanshyam Tiwari, party Whip Rajendra Singh Rathore and member Dr Digambar Singh raised the issue during the Chief Minister's speech and urged him to make announcement about revision of pension of former MLAs. Mr Gehlot assured that the state government would do the needful in this regard.
