Sportspersons stage dharna against RCA, Rajasthan Royals

Former international athlete Ramniwas, Kabaddi player Heeranand Kataria, Volleyball player Ramavtar Singh Jhakhar, football player Jaswant Sinha and about one dozen Rajasthan State Sports Associations staged a dharna against the unruly act of the Rajasthan Cricket Association and Rajasthan Royals here today.

During the Rajasthan Royals practice matches, the security personnels stopped the India's international and national players to enter the Sawai Man Singh Stadium while they wanted to go for practice at their grounds. The mediapersons were also stopped by them and misbehaved also.

Former Indian volleyball captain Ramavtar Singh Jhakhar, who led the dharna said they opposed the act of RCA and Rajasthan Royals because they always stopped the other games players and this time they also show unruly act against the media. ''We had given a memorandum to the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's officer on special duty (OSD) Lalit Kumar Gupta and chairman of Rajasthan State Sports council (RSSC) Shivcharna Mali, who assured us to talk to the Chief Minster and take necessary action against them,'' Jhakhar said.

''Due to cricket, other games should not be suffered. All sportspersons also had a right to come to the stadium for practice.

It should not be stopped by them during the cricket acitivity,'' The Rajasthan Volleyball Association (RVA) secretary and former Indian captain added.

Hundreds of sportspersons chanted slogan that this act of Rajasthan Royals and RCA was against to the right of freedom.

Jhakhar also demanded that the amount of Maharana Pratap Award (state award for players) should be increased from Rs 11,000 to Rs 1 lakh.

They further said the Indoor stadium have to be provided to the sports association on free cost like cricket ground which was provided to the RCA free of cost.

Rajasthan Volleyball Association, Rajasthan Hockey Association, Rajasthan Wushu Association, Rajasthan Kick Boxing, Rajasthan Weight Lifting Association, Rajasthan Carom Association, Rajasthan Netball Association, Rajasthan Football Association, Rajasthan Wrestling Association and Rajasthan Fancing, Bodybuilding and Kabaddi Association secretaries and president were present furing the agitation.
