2-day 5th International Seminar on 'Wheat' from tomorrow

A two-day 5th International Seminar on ''Wheat & Wheat Products: Towards Millennium Goals'' will be here from tomorrow.

Speaking to mediapersons here today, Abi Narayan Gupta, Chairman, Wheat Products Promotion Society, New Delhi, said, ''The seminar would seek to set an agenda for the Millennium Development Goals for the management of wheat production, procurement and distribution.'' The seminar will be jointly organised by the Wheat Products Promotion Society, Roller Flour Millers Federation of India (RFMFI), Society of Indian Bakers, All India Bread Manufacturers Association and Gujarat Roller Flour Mills Association. It will be inaugurated by Gujarat Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Mr Narottam Patel, while Union Minister of State for Agriculture Prof K V Thomas will give valedictory address.

Mr Gupta said, ''While providing the global and domestic overview of wheat market and exploring the dynamics of specific markets, the seminar would have six technical sessions on some crucial aspects of the wheat management.'' Giving further details he said, ''The subjects, to be discussed during these sessions, include overview of global and Indian wheat production, consumption and trade; wheat management and logistics pricing, risk management and tariffs, food and nutrition security and latest developments in milling and baking industry.

''More than 350 delegates from wheat and allied industry from various countries are going to participate in the Seminar,'' Mr Gupta added. Vinod Kapoor, Chairman, Organizing Committee of the event, said the recommendations of the Seminar will be forwarded to the Government and proceedings of the Seminar will be published after the event.
