The Meghalaya government would soon ink a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) with MKC Roko Cancer Trust for entering into a Public Private Partnership (PPP), Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Mukul M Sangma said. The trust, a UK-registered charity operating in India and abroad, provides mobile screening units to reach to the masses, administering free early detection through mammography to suspected cases. ''The MKC Roko Cancer Trust will provide the government with two state-of-the-art mobile breast cancer detection units to help the state in detection of breast and cervical cancer,'' Dr Sangma told reporters here after the Cabinet meeting yesterday. He said these units would travel to all the villages in various parts of the state to conduct an awareness programme for making people understand the need for early detection of cancer. Besides conducting awareness programme, the mobile vans would conduct the necessary tests in this regard, Dr Sangma said. Dr Sangma also informed that the state government would invest in the maintenance of vehicles and payment of salaries to the staff attached to the mobile vans.
