Haryana has right to have its own High Court: CM
Chandigarh | Monday, Dec 7 2009 IST

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today asserted that it was the State's right to have its own High Court in Chandigarh and added that Union Law and Justice Minister M Veerappa Moily had also seconded this view and the issue was under consideration.

The Chief Minister, who was replying to the questions of mediapersons at the Head Office of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee here said as far as the issue of jurisdiction was concerned, ways and means would be found to resolve it. When his attention was drawn towards the statement made by Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal that if in case Haryana got its separate High Court in Chandigarh, that would adversely affect the claim of Punjab on Chandigarh, Mr Hooda said he had already said in case Punjab got its High Court made outside Chandigarh, Haryana too, would built it outside the capital.

''Today, Chandigarh is also capital of Haryana and Chandigarh belongs to Haryana as well,'' he added.

When asked about the issue of separate capital for Haryana, Mr Hooda said that efforts were being made for the last several years to resolve the issue of State capital. He reiterated that Chandigarh belonged to Haryana and it was its capital. He also denied that the quota of officers of Haryana cadre had reduced in Chandigarh.

In reply to a question about restoring the office of Chief Commissioner in Chandigarh, Mr Hooda made it clear that either the old system of having a Chief Commissioner for Chandigarh should be restored or the Governors of both Punjab and Haryana should act as its Administrator in rotation. Or the Central Government should take a decision in this regard. ''I am firm on my demand, but I dont know what decision is finally taken,'' he added.

When asked to comment that how the new members of his team were doing, he said he too was new in 2005. The newcomers were doing a good job, he added. In reply to another query, Mr Hooda responded that he never felt tense in politics as he always believed in the philosophy of Karma, of doing one's duty.
