Chautala's apprehension on N-power plant baseless: Hooda
Chandigarh | Monday, Dec 7 2009 IST

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today ridiculed the statement made by former state Chief Minister, Om Parkash Chautala to oppose the setting up a nuclear power plant in Fatehabad district on the plea that the plant would prove deterimental to peoples health and agriculture.

Mr Hooda, who was replying to the questions of media persons here termed Mr Chautalas statement ''baseless'' adding it ''may be that Mr Chautala was not interested in solving the problem of power shortage in the State''.

Mr Hooda stressed that the setting up of the nuclear power plant in district Fatehabad would be in the interest of the State, people and the country.

Such nuclear plants were already functioning in many States in India. The entire France was on nuclear energy, he pointed out.

A team of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) led by its Chairman and Managing Director, Dr S.K. Jain, which had recently visited the site of the 4X700 MW Nuclear Power Project in district Fatehabad, had also made it clear that the nuclear power plant would be a ''green project'' with zero emission thus having no health hazard.
