The city-based Hatsun Agro Products Limited, the largest private sector dairy in India, has set up its biggest state-of-the-art plant in South India near Palacode in Dharmapuri District of Tamil Nadu, with an investment of Rs 150 crore. Talking to a group of visiting reporters from Chennai after conducting them round the plant, Hatsun Agro Managing Director R G Chandramogan said the new facility was equipped with the most modern systems and technology. It has a processing capacity of 9,00,000 litres of milk per day, he said. The company has three major divisions, Ice Cream, Milk and Milk Products and Ingredients. The Hatsun brand includes Arun Ice Creams, which is the leading ice cream brand in South India, Arokya milk, the largest private sector liquid milk brand in India, was selling one million litres per day, besides the fast moving consumer goods brand in Ghee, Butter and Milk powder. He said the company has clocked a turnover of Rs.1013 crore at the end of the last fiscal. This was expected to touch Rs 1200 crore during the year ending March 2010. Mr Chandramogan said Hatsun has established an extensive direct procurement network for procuring milk from farmers. The company collects milk from 3,00,000 farmers every day and has a network of 6000 collection centers and 62 chilling centers in various parts of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Realizing that the key to success lies in the well-being and development of dairy farmers, he said the company helps farmers to get loans from different banks to buy animals and produces cattle feed and supply to the farmers at concessional rates. He said the company has recently launched a project called ''white gold'', under which Hatsun helps farmers to set up mini dairies of 10 to 30 animals and provides them guidance on water management, fertilizer use, labour management and productivity improvement, among others. ''So far, we have been instrumental in promoting 400 such mini dairy farms all over the state'', he added. -- (UNI) -- 06MC1.xml
