India RSS chief in 'introspection' mode over D-4 remark
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohanrao Bhagwat today conceded that he needed some 'introspection' for having made the controversial remark that ruled out the possibilty of any of the ''D-4'' BJP leaders becoming the safforn party's next president. However, he defended his statement by claiming that he was himself briefed by the BJP leadership that none of the four BJP leaders from Delhi (Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitely, Anant Kumar and Venkaiah Naidu) would be made party president. ''They told me so and I spoke about it. But whether I should have spoken about it is now a matter of introspection for me,'' Mr Bhagwat said in response to media queries at a 'Meet-the-Press' programme at the Chandigarh Press Club here. He also reiterated the oft-repeated RSS stand that the Sangh did not run the BJP affairs but only gave them advice. ''(Sangh BJP ko sanchalit nahin karta, salah deta hai)'' The BJP, he said, was an independent party and took its decisions on its own. -- (UNI) -- 05DR75.xml
