Rosaiah seeks Pawar, PC's help for flood relief fund

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah today sought the intervention of Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Home Minister P Chidambaram for the release of Rs 6,000 crore under National Calamity Contingency Fund as advance to enable the state take up relief rehabilitation and restoration works on a war footing. The Chief Minister, who met the two ministers on the second day of his official visit here, also urged them to restore the Above Poverty Line (APL) Rice allocation for the year 2009-10 to the same level of 2007-08 for an uninterrupted supply of rice to the people through PDS in the flood affected districts of his state. He also sought special package for agriculture and allied sectors seeking a release of Central Share for National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS) Claims for Kharif, 2008. The Chief Minister's requests also included releasing balance amount of Rs 54.04 crore to the Andhra Pradesh MARKFED for release of Food credit by Reserve Bank of India and permission to export 15 lakh tonne of boiled rice to other countries under normal trade channel. Besides, he also asked for moving rice to the tune of 10-20 lakh MTs from the state before the commencement of Kharif production.
