UAE financial crisis will not affect India : Ahamed
Kochi | Sunday, Nov 29 2009 IST

Minister of State for Railways E Ahamed today said the financial crisis in the UAE would not affect the Indian economy, which was 'stable and robust'.

Speaking on the sidelines of a lawyers' enrolment function here, Mr Ahamed said, '' Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had noted that the country's economy was stable and robust and had the capability to overcome the present financial crisis.'' There was no cause of concern as the economy had withstood more rigours and vicious financial crisis earlier, he added. When asked on certain reports that lot of casual labourers employed in the UAE were rendered jobless, Mr Ahamed said, '' It was not a matter of cause as these kind of situations prevailed earlier also and this was not a matter of concern.'' The financial crisis in the state-owned Dubai World had raised concerns that majority of Keralites working in the UAE would be jobless in the coming days. To a query on the remarks by the LDF-led State Government that the Centre was not providing enough financial assistance to the State, Mr Ahamed alleged that the State Government was not utilising the funds allocated to it and asked the Government to disclose the details of the funds utilised. Earlier, 329 advocates enrolled as lawyers at a function at Kerala High Court auditorium here.
