Sonia Gandhi best dressed and King Khan lacking style?
New Delhi | Wednesday, Nov 25 2009 IST

Editor of the leading fashion magazine Marie Claire Shefali Vasudev voted Sonia Gandhi as one of the best dressed and Shahrukh Khan as one of the worst dressed people in the country today.

In an exclusive interaction with UNI, the fashion critic, when asked about her choices of the best dressed people in India, said, ''Out of the recent celebrities, Sonam Kapoor is one of the best dressed people one can observe because her style is very classic and vintage. On the style statement of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, she said, She can be counted amongst the best dressed because her style is consistent. You cannot afford to be perfect one day and a rag the other. Counting Hollywood icon Nicole Kidman as the best dressed celebrity in the West, Ms Vasudev believed, Fashion is an anthropological understanding of life and I admire the West for not treating it in a flippant manner. Ms Vasudev interacted with UNI on the occasion of the announcement of the second edition of the 'Made In India Fashion Awards' by Marie Claire tonight.

The awards will be presented on December 4 and a special collection by leading names of the fashion industry like Anupama Dayal, Pankaj and Nidhi Arora, Zubair Kirmani and Atsu will be showcased on the ramp.

Noting the absence of a personal style in Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan, she said, Apart from Shahrukh, even Malaika Arora Khan, who does not cover up and Salman Khan, who is all bravado, are badly dressed. When quizzed on the effects of recession on the fashion reds, Ms Vasudev observed, This year has been difficult both for the designers and buyers. But people are breaking out of trends and developing their own sense of style. She added that recession had made people and designers creative and they were compelled to look for alternatives.

She also elaborated the trends which should be seen in peoples wardrobe this winter season.

Goth is a very bold style statement but is certainly in this winter season, she said.

She noted that the colour purple would be a hit both on the ramp and in wardroes this winter season.

When asked about the current challenges faced by the Indian fashion industry, she replied, People here cannot work in an isolated way. They need to work together and understand each other.
