Nitish demands probe into ''kickbacks'' received by NTPC
Patna | Wednesday, Nov 25 2009 IST

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today demanded a probe into the alleged kickbacks received by National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) in a bid to ensure stringent punishment to those involved in the scam.

Mr Kumar told mediapersons here that it was distressing to see the reports appearing in a section of press about crores of rupees received by the NTPC as kickbacks.

The NTPC was a leading public sector unit and such reports were serious in nature, affecting its credibility and efficiency as well, according to Mr Kumar.

''The Centre should direct the NTPC to ensure completion of thermal power projects in Bihar as soon as possible. All of them are far behind the schedule fixed for beginning power generation,'' the Chief Minister said, adding the projects were sanctioned by the erstwhile NDA government at the Centre after strenous efforts.
