India Dhoni declared fit for Kanpur Test, Karthik to fly back
Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was today declared fit to play the second Test against Sri Lanka that begins here tomorrow. Wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik was flown in as cover for Dhoni, who injured his finger during the drawn opening Test in Ahmedabad, and will now return to Dharamshala to lead Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy Super League match against Himachal Pradesh. At the practice session, Dhoni did not look in much discomfort and there were hardly any signs of pain when he came out to bat at the nets. The Indian skipper also rolled his arms and bowled seam-up with no strapped fingers. Karthik, who last played a Test for India in March this year against New Zealand, was in Dharamshala yesterday when he was called in as a back-up for Dhoni but the Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper will now return for his state team's services. Dhoni played a crucial knock in the drawn Test at Ahmedabad and struck a century to ressurect the Indian innings when the home team was tottering at 32 for four on the first session of the opening day.
