India India doesn't see China's emergence as a threat: Tharoor
Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor today said India did not see the emergence of China as a threat and wants cooperation and peaceful relationship with the country. He said though the two countries have differences, there was a mechanism to resolve discordance. Mr Tharoor sought to point out that two decades ago, the two countries had decided not to resort to conflict for resolution of the issues. He was speaking at a seminar on 'Emerging China: Prospects for Partnership in Asia' organised by the Association of Asian Scholars at the Indian Council of World Affairs here. The Minister said both the countries were on the path of high growth and to maintain the scale of their economies, they required peace around them. ''We should have a shared relationship with China for the 21rst country,'' he added. India has a manpower and companies working in China and the latter has the same in India, and there were 7000 Indian students in that country, he pointed out. Mr Tharoor said it was high time that the aspirations and the principles of the 1954 Panchsheel agreement between the two countries were fully realised. The border with China had been largely peaceful and there was substantial trade between the two countries.
