BPL families asked to write 'I am poor' in homes
Khandwa | Saturday, Nov 21 2009 IST

Madhya Pradesh Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Paras Jain today said every house belonging to those living Below Poverty Line would have 'I am poor' written outside their homes.

' 'The state government had directed to write 'I am poor' outside the residence of every house belonging to those living BPL so that people above the poverty line do not misuse the schemes floated for the poorest in the state' ', he told reporters here.

He said a number of people living above the poverty line are misusing the schemes for the poor and the decision of the government would make many misusing the scheme get their names deleted from the list of BPL families.

The Minister said the poor should not have any hesitation in allowing the officials to write 'I am poor' in front of their homes for their benefit from the various government schemes. This is being done to ensure their welfare in the state, he added.

He said every eligible person, having an identity card would be entitled to get wheat at the rate of Rs 13 per kg in the state. The state government is also importing 50,000 tonnes of Brazilian sugar which when distributed to the ration card holders, would bring down the rising price of sugar in the state, he added.
