Terrorists getting funds, equipment from Pak: J&K DGP
Jammu | Saturday, Nov 21 2009 IST

Asserting that terrorists are making all attempts to enter into the Indian Territory, Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda today alleged that militant outfits operating in the state of Jammu and Kashmir are being funded and provided equipment by Pakistan.

''Terrorist outfits have all support from across the border and they are continuously making all attempts to sneak into the Indian Territory as Pakistan is funding them besides providing all equipment they require to vitiate the atmosphere and increase violence in Jammu and Kashmir apart from coordinating the activities of different terrorist outfits,'' Mr Khoda told reporters at a press conference, organized prior to the All India Police Lawn Tennis Championship, to be held here from November 23- 27.

The DGP, however, terming it as lowest ever decline in terrorist related activities across the state, said 24 per cent drop in violence has been reported so far in the year 2009.

''Although in the previous year, the violence was reported 36 per cent, which was the lowest ever for the past 19 years, but so far in 2009 it is 24 per cent,'' he added.

Khoda, further said infiltration bids from across the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC), had shown a decline in the recent years and most of them had been foiled by the security forces.

''Our troops have foiled many infiltration attempts and killed many terrorists along the borders,'' the DGP said adding terrorists have a strategy to enter Indian territory before the onset of the winter or when the passes open with the melting of snow.

Meanwhile, about presence of militants in the state, the DGP revealed that nearly 700 terrorists were operating in different regions of the state including the surrendered ones having joined the militant cadres again.

''There are about 700 terrorists of different outfits operating in the state and these may include some who had surrendered earlier,'' he said adding that the number of surrendered militants who have again taken up arms and rejoined the outfits is negligible.
