Poor supply of coal forces closure of three NTPC units
Bhagalpur | Saturday, Nov 21 2009 IST

Three units of National Thermal Power Corporation(NTPC) were today closed due to supply of insufficient coal, causing considerable loss in power generation.

Official sources here said two units of 500 MW capacity each and one unit of 210 MW had to be closed due to insufficient supply of coal from Rajmahal collieries of Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL).

''There are seven units of the NTPC at Kahalgaon with a total power generation capacity of 2,340 MW,'' sources said adding more units would have to be closed if the supply of coal was not improved in near future.
