India 'Women's Reservation Bill' should be passed soon :Sushma
Expressing her concern over delay in passing the Women's Reservation Bill, BJP leader Sushma Swaraj today said keeping in mind the merit and achievements of Indian women, the Bill should be passed soon by Parliament. Elaborating further, Ms Swaraj said Indian women have improved a lot as in accordance with their merits as they are pursuing higher studies or holding higher posts in their respective offices, which also implies that they should get the 50 per cent share in politics. Speaking at a function, organised here, Ms Swaraj also underlined the need to make women politically competent and powerful for the growth of the nation. Commenting on the discrimination in Indian society, where girl child is being neglected, she said the existing laws should be amended to punish people who look down on women, who do not bear a male child. She expressed her concern over the lower birth rate of girl child in a number of states. -- (UNI) -- 21BY32.xml
