India Darda pledges to make Maharashtra number one industrial destination
Emphasising the need for developing infrastructure facilities in the industrial sector, Maharashtra Industries Minister Rajendra Darda today pledged to make the state number one destination for the service sector, including the Information Technology (IT) sector. Mr Darda announced the inclusion of Aurangabad in the most ambitious Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project that will provide immense opportunities in industrial growth for cities located in the 150 km range of the special railway track prepared for this venture. Aurangabad, which was previously excluded from DMIC, will benefit by it along with cities like Ahmednagar, Nashik and Malegaon. He was speaking at a function here, which was organised to felicitate him for getting Industries Minister portfolio. On the occasion, Mr Darda pledged to take Maharashtra on the path of progress and sought all-party support to accomplish this task. He said ''Sick industries across the state are a major challenge. But we should first test why these industries are sick. As they could provide jobs for many people, they can be taken over by new groups.'' But the existing laws for this process are too complicated, and hence they would be amended, he said. ''Give appropriate turnover time for specific work, don't harass industrialists. As they are providing employment and contributing to generate revenue, do work in their favour,'' Mr Darda said. He also announced the beginning of single window facility for completion of various works of the industrial sector. The Government is committed to providing the best for growth of industries, but at the same time it was the responsibility of the owners not to take adverse benefit of the facilities, he said adding, ''Do not shift ventures to different states on minor grounds. The Industries Minister also promised to amend the existing laws for reimbursement to farmers against the their lands acquired for the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). He said the current system was based on the ready reckoner and the rates in reckoner were very low. ''Now we are trying to negotiate directly with farmers, giving best values for their lands according to the market value,'' Mr Darda said. Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Balasaheb Vikhe Patil asked for decentralisation of industries. ''The industrial growth should not limited to Mumbai, Pune or Nashik, but Marathwada, North Maharashtra and Vidarbha region must also get more opportunities,'' he added. He demanded setting up of the Skill Development Academy to enable young graduates become employable. Mr Patil asked Mr Darda to chalk out a plan for Special Economic Zones.
