President appoints Governors of Gujarat, Tripura, Assam

President Pratibha Patil tonight appointed Dr Kamla and Dr D Y Patil as the Governors of Gujarat and Tripura, respectively.

Mr J B Patnaik has been appointed as the Governor of Assam.

According to a Rashtrapati Bhawan communique, Dr Kamla, presently the Governor of Tripura, has been transferred and appointed as the Gujarat Governor for the remainder of her term.

Dr Patil has been appointed as the Tripura Governor in place of Dr Kamla.

Mr Patnaik will take the place of Mr Syed Sibtey Razi on expiry of his term of office on December 9.

The above appointments will take effect from the dates the incumbents assume charge of their respective offices, the communique said.
