Campaign ends for civic polls in Hyderabad
Hyderabad | Saturday, Nov 21 2009 IST

Leaders of various parties made a last ditch effort to woo voters as curtains came down on campaigning this evening for the prestigious civic polls in the State Capital.

Loudspeakers fell silent and parties stopped roadshows as the clock struck 1700 hrs in the 150 wards going to polls on November 23.

Chief Minister K Rosaiah, former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's son Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and Pradesh Congress President D Srinivas were the key campaigners for the ruling Congress, which had promised to carry forward civic and infrastructure works taken during the YSR regime for the metropolis. Leading the TDP campaign, its president N Chandrababu Naidu maintained that the city had witnessed all-round development only when the TDP was in power in the State.

He raised the burning issues concerning the people, including price rise which hit hard all sections of people.

Using its good offices with the Centre, Mr Akbaruddin Owaisi, Legislature Party leader of the AIMIM, which had a strong presence in the old city, promised to ensure allocation of Rs 10,000 crore for the development of the old city.

BJP state president B Dattatraya and its national spokesman and State in-charge Prakash Javadekar, were among the key campaigners for the party which raised the issue of a ''Hyderabadi Link'' to any terrorist attack in any part of the country.
