JD(S) urges CBI inquiry into mining in Karnataka
Bangalore | Saturday, Nov 21 2009 IST

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) State President H D Kumaraswamy, today said a CBI probe must be sought into illegal mining in the state involving three cabinet ministers, without any hesitation.

''Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa should recommend to the Centre a CBI inquiry as it was done by the Andhra Pradesh Government which has alleged encroachment and illegal mining by a mining Company owned by a minister,'' Mr Kumaraswamy told newsmen after meeting Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj here.

The Chief Minister, instead of looking at safeguarding his chair should handover the issue to CBI in the larger interest of the state and prove that he was not after position.

Welcoming the comment made by the Governor on tardy flood relief works in the affected villages, Mr Kumaraswamy said atleast now the state government should wake up and take up works on warfooting.

Replying to a question, Mr Kumaraswamy said ''JD-S has an open mind on alliance with Congress in the forthcoming localbody elections. But the party leaders should not treat this openness as weakness.''
