Cong committed to realising Hyderabad as global city
Hyderabad | Saturday, Nov 21 2009 IST

The ruling Congress, under the leadership of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah, will strive to realise the vision of late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to develop Hyderabad into a major global destination, Pradesh Congress President D Srinivas said today.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the late Chief Minister, who was keen on winning the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, was working out the strategy before the fateful helicopter crash of September two. He said if the Congress emerges victorious in the civic polls in the state capital, it would facilitate faster development as the party was also in power both at the Centre and in the State.

The party would concentrate on improving civic amenities and infrastructure in the growing metropolis, he added.

Taking strong objection the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) driving fear into the people of Hyderabad, he said the very word ''settlers'' was highly objectionable. People from different parts of the country had settled in Hyderabad. Similarly, people of the state had been making a living in other parts of the country. Only under the Congress regime, all sections of people would feel secure, he said.

He expressed confidence that the party would win more than 70 per cent of the 150 wards and the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
