YSR's good work will ensure Cong facile win in civic polls:CM
Hyderabad | Saturday, Nov 21 2009 IST

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah today asserted that the development programmes and welfare schemes initiated by his predecessor Y S Rajasekhara Reddy would ensure easy victory for the party in the November 23 elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

The Chief Minister, talking to two media channels said his government was fully committed to implement the poll promises made by late Rajaekhara Reddy in the last elections, according to an official release. The party had not forgotten its commitment to the people to increase the quantum of rice supplied under the Rs 2-a-kg rice scheme from four kg per person to six kg and the duration of the free power supply to peasants from seven hours to nine hours, Mr Rosaiah said. The state required an additional 1.75 lakh tonnes of subsidised rice in addition to the 3.50 lakh tonnes provided by the Centre, he said, adding he had asked the state MPs to impress upon the Centre to provide additional subsidised rice. He denied any differences with late Chief Minister's son Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

The unprecedented floods in river Krishna had deprived the state of 900 MW of power following inundation of the Srisailam power house. Similarly, the much-expected 500 MW addition to the power grid from the Vijayawada Thermal Power Station Expansion project did not materialise as a result of technical problem. Once the situation improved, the state government would certainly provide additional two hours free power supply to farmers, he said.
